Erdal has left

Compagnie Arborescence / Simon Roth

Following his success last season, Erdal Left returns to the Experimental Stage.

Director Simon Roth once shared an apartment with Erdal Karagoz, a Kurdish refugee. From this encounter, a project was born: to create a play about his journey into exile, from Anatolia to Paris. Can one tell another person’s story without betraying them?
Four actors share the role of Erdal in a raw production blending theater, video, and rap. The show explores both the narrative of migration and the role of art in confronting trauma. A play free of pathos and artifice, seeking simply to express, with accuracy, what can no longer be silenced.

In the News

Simon Roth, a 2021 graduate of the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique in Paris, has created a performance that is as inspired as it is inspiring, one that reimagines the conventions of documentary theater through creative work with sound. Using an original sound design, complemented by filmed footage, he accurately brings the life of an exile to the stage.

Far from any inappropriate voyeurism that would objectify his suffering, the writer and director presents the play for what it is: an attempt to understand, to help others understand, and to convey a message at a time when barriers are being erected everywhere.
