The Peritopies
Because it lies at the intersection of the scientific and artistic fields, the Research Scene is marked by a twofold question.
We recognize the dangers of confusion and a loss of scientific rigor when the “artist in researcher’s garb” distorts the methods of scientific analysis by mimicking them. Conversely, the dissemination of scientific culture is sometimes perceived as time-consuming or oversimplifying. As for artists, they may refuse to be reduced to a mere instrumental role.
Eager to explore these questions together, the Scène de recherche is launching a series of evening events: the Péritopies. These are “inside-outs”—places where one can step away from the constraints that define
“communities.” Moments when we allow ourselves to distance ourselves from prescribed roles.
A “Péritopie” consists of two parts. A scientist will take the stage to present their research in an unconventional way, breaking away from the formats of conferences, articles, or lectures.
The researcher will have complete freedom to put the form of knowledge into perspective, to play with the conventions of academic discourse, or even to break away from them entirely.
An artist will present a performance resulting from a residency in a laboratory. The only prerequisite will be immersion in and dialogue with the scientific “world” in order to explore its challenges and offer an oblique perspective on research activity.
Followed by a group discussion, each of these evenings aims to open up a space for experimentation—an invitation to a journey along the boundaries of both disciplines and the imagination.
