Yvon le Maho

For him, “understanding and predicting the effects of global changes on polar ecosystems is a scientific and technical challenge.” This latest meeting features Yvon le Maho, an ecophysiologist, emeritus research director at the CNRS, and member of the Academy of Sciences. He first traveled to Adélie Land in 1971, where he recognized the importance of studying how penguins withstand the cold and fasting, and he developed the techniques needed to uncover these mechanisms. Concerned with biodiversity issues and involved in the Grenelle Environment Forum, he published the chapter “How Seabirds Cope with the Consequences of Climate Change” in 2006 as part of the book *em* *L’homme face au climat* . More recently, in 2022, he contributed to the book *Le pouvoir* with the chapter “Power in Animal Societies.”
