The Games of Love and Mystery
day-for-night / Anne Monfort
In a classroom, during a detention that seems to last forever, Charlie and Rafie meet. Charlie stutters and has speech difficulties. To help her, there’s Max, a virtual friend in the form of a portable speaker that speaks for her when she has trouble finishing her sentences and activates after 5 seconds of silence.
Both strange and funny, though often useless for homework, Max nonetheless offers his opinion on moral questions and directs theater scenes. Little by little, Rafie notices that Max is becoming increasingly out of sync, somewhat lost in his functions, almost obsolete… Will humans replace machines?
