n degrees of freedom
In physics, the number of degrees of freedom of a system determines the extent to which it can move without constraint. And “n” is always the unknown. On a narrow 2-square-meter stage, seven actors rise up, carry one another, and support one another. Together, they launch a revolution reminiscent of the Paris Commune of 1871, while a storm looms—a metaphor for the climate, political, and social upheaval that is about to hit us head-on.
The performance will be followed by a discussion with Ludivine Bantigny, a historian specializing in labor, inequality, social movements, and revolutions.
On the Paris Commune, she has published the book *La Commune au présent*. A Correspondence Across Time (La Découverte, 2021).
