Salmon always return to where they were born. What about us? On stage, two stories echo each other: that of a salmon from the Allier River and that of four friends grappling with their social differences. Between animal reproduction and social reproduction, certainties waver… Are we free to make our own choices, or are we shaped even in our preferences? In this funny, collaborative show, you’ll be part of the action, too. Following Les Héritiers, the Scène de recherche continues the dialogue between sociology and theater: the comedy Panaris takes a humorous look at Pierre Bourdieu’s La Distinction to examine our life paths and tastes.

STUDY DAY

*Distinction: A Social Critique of Judgment* is one of the major works by the leading figure in French sociology. That is why the Paris-Saclay House of Social Sciences and Humanities, the DER in Humanities and Social Sciences at ENS Paris-Saclay, and theIDHE.S (Laboratory for Institutions and Historical Dynamics of Economy and Society) are joining forces to organize a one-day symposium, which will first address how this work has influenced sociology and sociologists beyond France’s borders. The session will then turn to the impact of this work on artists who have drawn upon it, whether as a source of inspiration or as a declared legacy.
